Mark E. Klass
Mark was born and raised in Davidson County and attended public schools. As a teenager Mark fell into his work ethic early, getting jobs as a curb boy with a local barbeque restaurant, driving a bus for the county schools and working at a saw mill during the summers and on holidays. Marks mother, Peggy, encouraged Mark and his two younger brothers to participate in Boy Scouts and all three received their Eagle Scout award.
As a student in Central Davidson High Schools class of 1975, Mark played football, was on the wrestling and golf teams, ran track and lettered in each sport. Mark played football at a junior college, but suffered an injury which was a wake-up call. He went on to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, then on to Campbell University law school.
Upon graduation, Mark worked as an assistant district attorney then went into practice with his father Jack. From 1994 to 1998 he practiced two weeks in Lexington, NCand two weeks in Memphis, TN, where he met his future wife, Becky, on a blind date. In 1998 the couples daughter, Ellie, was born. On January 2, 1999, Mark began working as a Superior Court Judge. At the time Mark was sworn in, he and his father, then a district court judge, were one of two father and son teams to hold judgeships in North Carolina at the same time.
